Syphon Filter 3 continues the adventures of covert operative Gabe Logan and his team as they try to rid the world of the deadly syphon filter virus. In the wake of the events of Syphon Filter 2, Logan finds himself and his friends under suspicion from the U.S. government for committing acts of treason. As the different members of the team testify, players will reenact missions from times past, including a level that represents the events of the original opening cinema from the first Syphon Filter. As the game progresses, these missions from the past are mixed with present operations.

The story continues in this way, and players will receive new information on the government's role in the development of the virus as the plot takes its twists and turns. Players who've experienced the gameplay of the previous titles will be immediately familiar with this game's mix of third-person and first-person perspectives.

Along with the single-player game, Syphon Filter 3 offers a number of different multiplayer options. Inspired by the success of Enix's Dragon Quest game, Square decided to release a similarly styled role-playing game with a different theme for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The title, Final Fantasy, debuted on Japan's Famicom in 1987 to critical and fiscal success. Final Fantasy's storyline, which dealt in mythological archetypes and confusing time loops, was deeper and more engaging than the one that powered the original Dragon Quest. Square's RPG also established left-against-right turn-based battle and magic systems that have been copied by competitors ever since.

In Final Fantasy, the tale begins when four young warriors, each possessing a Crystal, are summoned to bring the world back to a harmonious elemental balance. During their voyage, they discover a nefarious entity has created turmoil in the structure of time in order to take control of the world, causing the heroes to travel to places they never imagined possible.

Final Fantasy II is notable for being both story-intensive and for doing away with the popular experience point system. Instead of having a level-up structure, player stats increased via the usage of certain attack types. The game's turn-based battle system gave the player the opportunity to input commands for all four members of the battle party at once. At any time before the command for the final character in the lineup was issued, the player could hit a button and return to the previous character to reissue a command. The story concerns the adventures of four youngsters from the kingdom of Fynn named Firion, Maria, Guy and Leon. After the parents are killed, these four set out to literally walk into the depth of Hell, defeat the evil emperor and find Maria's missing brother, Leon. The second Final Fantasy title also introduced the recurring character of Cid as well as the Chocobo birds.
